Hi HK Snob,

You have a GREAT blog.

I will be in HK on this SAT (14-1-2012)

I will be visiting HK and wanted to buy the GMT Master II Green Dial and Bezel, can I know the
price and good deal.

This will be my first ROLEX watch.

I heard that the price was $61,200 from ROLEX official SHOP, is there any good discount on it, are
there any shops that give good deals on this watch, can we bargin in ROLEX official shops or their

Authorized Dealers like Chow Tai Fook or Chow Sang Sang.

Is it possible to get a 10% discount on this watch, I dont mind buying a pre-owned one, as long as

it is very new, haha...but do you recommend me as this will be my FIRST ROLEX watch, shall I buy a new one or pre-owned one?

One of my friend told me to ask from a shop called "VIP Watch and Jewellery also called VIP

Station" is this shop trustful (they have only 2 shops in HK, one in TST and one in Central, I am

looking for a real Rolex watch.

Or shall I try a pre-owned from Kuen Kee (but do they include the cert and the warrantly card), are they trustful, and how much I can get from them.

Sorry for my long email, as I did a lot of reasearch myself as I cannot decide from where to buy from and this is my final choice from you.

Thx a lot bro,
Shawn

Hi Shawn, Since this is the first Rolex for you, it would be advisable to buy new as they are flawless, value for life, and most of all guranteed to serve you for many mnay years.
Yes, that is the price for GMT Master II HKD$61,200.00. All Rolex AD can offer you maximum 5% less as a discount,. you can see there is another Rolex Fan called me saying that Chow Sang Sang offered him less 3% only. I have friend in anotehr oriental but they have no stock and have to wait a few day to get that at less 5% dcsount, Well, he left HK already tonight.
back to your case. My opinion, if for new go to Oriental, Wah Hing, Chow Sang Sang and Chow Tak Fook,
2nd Hand wise, you can consier Kuen Kee, some of the watch has the certificate, Waranty card at Kuen Kee, as for your other shop, I can not comment it as I have not been there for buying.

Hi Aussi Boy,
The one you got 116610LV at HKD$68000 is very good deal, as current price is about HKD$72,000-73,000.
As for 116610LN price you got is HKD$58,000. still an excellent price as Rolex AD is selling ta HKD$62,100.00 less 5% to HKD$58,985.
About Ken's Watch I dare not comment as so far I did not have any business deal.

Hi,

Just earlier I called Kuen Kee, and the lady told me that they have a new and a pre-owned GMT Master II, the pre-owned in good condition and with all the certificates and warranty card for around $53k.

Shwan

HK Snob said...

Hi Shwan,

Ask fro more 3-5% if possible, but make sure the Certificate no. matches with the actual Watch no.
And how long they can give you warranty on that. if say min.8 month of so. Buy it.

Hi HK Snob,

I tried to called back Kuen Kee, this time a guy picked the call and gave me another price new $57k, pre-owned $55,500 and if pay by CC extra 3% charge.(so the pre-owned price is only $1500 less then the new one and extra 3%, so why not buy a new one from a AD instead, coz sometimes they dont make sense that why will someone buy a pre-owned that is soo nearly priced to the new one, hahaha)

So I was thinking why not buy is from an AD instead coz seems like so much mess and enquires have to go through such a headache)

Talk Soon,
Shawn

HK Snob said...

Hi Shwan,
I am terribly sorry, and as I think that Shop (That I do not want to mention its name anymore.) is having a trustful Chinese way to do business for the past 28 years) well, bs eon the information I got from you, The prices thye offer is not good at all, you have better stay away from that, As We still can got a Brand New Rolex at the similar price, using CC charges extra 3% is also an abnomral way to do business this way. May be I guess you called them and they do not know you and that is why they quoted High. I have seen that situation, anyway, I will go there once when I have thime this week and check. But I advised you to buy a new one from AD. I always recommended you to buy the new one unless you are expecrt on Rolex, as there are 1,0000 ways to sell you a Cocktail in shop, of course that is not the practice of Kuen Kee, they have sa Renowned name in the watch market of HK
Since you are in HK, keep an eye to book one in one of the Shop, I will send you contact and you can go to see him , he works in one of WATCH AD of Rolex in HK, he can help you for a Good stuff and Right price!!
Have a nice day and prepare for you write to wear a Rolex...

Hi HK Snob,

I will buy two Rolex watches next week in Europe and it is one new Explorer II 42mm (white/orange) or (Black/orange) depends on my chose in shop and one submariner LV (green/green).
These watches are brand new and with Rolex worldwide warranty.
I wonder if it's possible to sell it in Hong Kong and which shop would be most trustful?
What prices can I expect?

I can even order brand new hot Rolex watches like Daytone SS, GMT II SS or Sea dweller in Europe within 1-3 months delivery.

/ HK Rolex fan

HK Snob said...

Hi HK ROlex Fan,
I wonder if you can get a good price from Europe, as there was another Blog fan who is Italian whant to do business this way as he says he has good source of Rolex in Itlay.
Well, let's think about it this way, I think there may be chnace you can get the Rolex at a lower price in HK, I beleive, the price wouldnot be so low or may be just 110% less than the price in HK, Imganine if the price is 10% lower, so how much you want to sell it., Also think about teh buyer, if he knows Rolex, OK he may buy from you at lower than the price of HK 5% as 5% means quite l lot in term of cash value,
Say for Example Submariner Ref 116610LN is HK$ 62100 after less 5% in HK Rolex AD that is HKD%59000.
and you buying price must be at least 10% lower than this that is HKD$53,100, so you can sell it to me say for example HKD%56,000. and I buy that watch cheaper HKD%3000, and you earn HKD$3000.
Also many peopel may hasite that your waranty is valid in say in Greece and the watch us to be used in HK, Well, Rolex will service it as I know, But the other buyer may not.
Anyway, Check if how much you can get it, and I think some one like me will buy it if that is hot model.
Note that you should buy it before HK Rolex is Going to increase the price. So you may get another 4% Profit margin.
Wish you could make some Bucks out form your sources

let me know...

HK Snob said...

Hi Friend from India,

Submariner Black is HKD$62,100.00 Less 5% discount at the Rolex AD.
Not Tax refund in HK as there is no VAT in HK.
Depends on when you come to HK, Rolex used to raise the price after the Chinese New Year by a few percentage!Hope that this will not happen in 2012 due to bad economy.

Collected it today, very please. It is brand new has UK code, not EU & pre-owned. Incidentally there is a 13% net tax rebate could be claimed by tourist. That would make the purchase even more amazing.

Hi Submariner Green bezel Green Dial new owner.
You are lucky, such a price is a dream in HK, I saw it three days near my place, they said new, but I doublt, it was selling at HKD$68,000.00. Men, HK is not going to be the shopping paradise anymore!
I should ask friend of mine in UK to shop for me...

Very true HK Snob,
Had a quote in that big watch shop in Central, HK island back in 2010 for a two tone Datejust 116201, HK$46k net then but eventually bought one in the UK for £4400 incl tax.
I notice that the Rolex price are set different before tax everywhere in the world but becomes the same after adding the local tax.
BTW what is your opinion for Tudor & Bell & Ross watches?

HK Snob said...

Hi Rolex, Tudor and Bell and Ross lover,
Well, True, the final price is more or less the same, only way is to catch the old stock beofre the new prices imposed, the differnce is about 4-5%, but Rolex AD isn;t dumb and keep the old popular model whenever they have news of the new price adjustment. Well, Tudor has created some of the great watch at fraction of the price of Rolex, and I had missed tp get one Chronometer in 2010. The new Tudor has a big face lift on the design including overall size, shape, bezel and strap, like the new Date-Day, it is very enchanting for me. But I have a few Rolex Date Day, so I had to let it go. You know when you have a ROlex, there is not much push for you to go for a Tudor, though through many years effort Tudor tries to deferentiate himself from Rolex and never want to live under the shadow of Rolex Umbrella.
Ross and Bell, I had some reservation, with this I would consider Ball, U-Boat and or Panerai!
Like U-boat Thousand of Feet Diamond and Classico Golden Crown, I think they are more fun to wear than Bell and Ross as they bear similar layout. Of course, this is purely my persoanal preferrence!
What do you think?

What do you think?

Feider Cohen

HK Snob said...

HI Feider,
Honesty, as far as keeping a Daytona Watch as for daily use, I am sure I will not buying somehting like SS at such a Price of HKD$90,000. and There is almost no way to get it from Rolex AD with Discount. I will definitely go for a TT or Solid Gold Daytona, Especially as you said so, a TT after discount is just alightly higher than a SS Black Dial, Why Should I? A TT Daytona is at least bringing me another 25 gram of 18KT Gold.
Also, as in the case of HK, 6 out of 10 SS Daytona is fake. but it is seldom having fake on Gold or TTT daytona.

Hi Feider,
Since the launch of Pinkgold or everrose gold Daytona in 2008, a lot of people showed appreciation to Rolex as WHITE or Stainless steel Daytona is a class of Sport or dynamic look, with a new Everrose gold casing, it is a new facelift. It offers touches of elegant and Extravaganza!
If I buy my first Daytona, I will choose Everrose Gold, if I had to buy the second Daytona, I will buy also the Everrose Gold Daytona.
Only I had extra bedget, I will consider White gold, then the last: Stainless Steel.
Everrose Gold Daytona Ref. 116515 HKD$214,600 with less 5% discount at Rolex AD.

Hi,

Congrats on your fantastic blog. I am new to Rolex but I wish to have my first Rolex in my life. My budget will be around HKD 80k, would you be able recommend me some? Thanks in advance.

HK Snob said...

Hi KW,
116713LN new from Rolex AD is HKD$91,500, subject to less 5% discount, this is not hot item and pretty sure most of the Rolex AD and Rolex Shop should have... and As a Rolex user myself, I will hesitate to buy a new one on two tone Version. Reason TT verison is not hot item and the New watch price is High, if I keep this as a daily work horse. I will definitely go for pre-owned one which is about HKD$60,000. Unless this is your first Rolex, then you should go for brand new one.
In fact, this is one of the best favourite selection of American for Rolex in the 40s age group as stainless steel is a bit plain and not have that kind of One-step-Higher Feeling.
My opinion only
HK Snob

HK Snob said...

Hi Bloomy,
Wow, this is a hard-to-answer-question, but i do like to reply as for a Rolex Potential future collector like you. To start with buying a Rolex with HKD$80K, there is a lot of Choice.
The key points are your purpose of buying the Rolex?
For Daily use!? For Work!? For Collection? for investment!
You types of watch like Sportive diving or causual use!? You age?!
make it simple if you like daily use Rolex, I think Stainless steel
Submariner, or GMT master II.
If you want to go for a more sophisticated selection, a Daytona.
if you are loking for an all-purpose daily watch, a red second pointer Date Just Turn-O-graph stainless steel!
Except Daytona, your budget is good fit for that. And If you want to buy for Collection, a Rolex Day Date Ref 1803 solid gold will be not mistakes, and that may be used almost forever untill you retire.
If you like some thing different, go for a Submariner, green Bezel green dial, you will be stand out in the crowd! Are you HK ID card holder!?
HK Snob

Bloomy said...

Hi HK Snob,

Ya I am living in HK. Thanks for the advice. It is very useful!
I am looking for a daily use watch, which can keep its value or even appreciate in terms of value would be the best! I am at age of 30.
I am also looking at submariner but not too sure which one would be a good pick, such as 1166660? Or even the green dial that you mentioned would be good one too. Could you give me a rough idea on how is the price range for those recommended watches by you before?

Appreciate!

Hi Bloomy,

first Choice Ref 116610LV Submariner Green Bezel green dial $66,100 but almost impossible to get with this price, but the Shop beside Sino Centre at Mong Kok has it. They were asking for HKD$72,000.
In Tsuen Wan near Citistore there is a goldsmith shop selling also Rolex , the sweet lady asked me for HKD$68,000in Jan 2012.

2nd Choice
116610LN Submarine Black dial HKD$62,100 less 4% at any Rolex AD.

3rd Choice
116264-63600 Date Just Turn-O-graph Jubilee bracelet Black or White dial same price at HKD$60,500with 5% discount at Rolex AD.

4th Choice

Hi HK snob,

Super blog and advice, you are the rolex zen master! I'm almost ready to buy a GMT Master, just wondering is there any technical difference between green version and black version? Is green bezel green dial genuine? Is green bezel black dial genuine? and would you buy GMT Master or new Explorer 42mm? Thanks!

HK Snob said...

Hi Robin,
Thanks for your appreciation, I started blogging was intended to improve my writing but sooner I was in love with it. and I knew a lot of good friend having common interests.. Now I am still learning, that is true when you know more , you know less about Rolex!

I am trying to learn more from Gurus and Collectors. Back to your questions.
I am not too sure, are you talking about Green Second Pointer GMT Maser II? As Only Submariner has green bezel green dial and Green bezel Black dial, they are all Genuine Rolex Watch. But Green bezel Green dial is hard to find now at standard price, it is HKD$69,000 to 72,000. If you ask me GMT Master II green second pointer or the Explorer II 42mm , I would like to say This is my Preference; 1. Explorer II 42 mm Black Dial,2. GMT Master II new green Pointer, and the last one Explorer II 42mm White dial.
Wish you had a wonderful week end Robin,

HK Snob

Robin said...

Dear snob,

Thanks for clearing up the issue about green rolexes, I was confused because I saw some pictures on google of GMT Master II with green dial and green bezel, they must be fake!

Nice to know your preference. I had a look at all three and was very tempted to buy the explorer II black dial because it is a new model and is in very high demand, but my heart told me to choose the GMT Master II, so in the end I went with the GMT. No regrets, I love it!

This weekend was very wonderful indeed, hope yours is too!

HK Snob said...

Hi Robin,
yes, take whatever it is best for you, The new GMT Master II and the older Pepsi Cola Blue and red bezel is waterdrooling...
Esp. the older one on solid gold, it is a bit too shinny but they are really beautiful. This is an old man choice I know. But Nowadays I use the Day Date White Gold everyday whenever I stay in HK or on travelling as it is offering me an extra convenience by telling me the day today! It is important for a Sales man like I.
Wish you too have a wonderful Sunday.

Hi HK Snob,

Thanks for your advise. I bought Pink Gold Daytona finally. I am also thinking to buy either 116610LV or 16610LV. Any advice? I prefer the black dial with Green bezel.

What are the current prices and where can I buy them? I want brand new pieces.

Looking for your reply.

Hi Feider,
Congrad for the Daytona purchase, Well, if I were asked to Choose between 116610LV or 16610LV, I prefer the former one as it is more unique for the colour over the whole watch, rather than just bezel is green whilst the dial is black.
Price is higher as it is hard to find now from Rolex AD. Outside of AD is Selling HKD$73,000.00
As for the 16610LV, Rolex AD is selling at HKD$59,850 net.

Hi HK Snob,

Which HK AD is selling 16610LV? I asked many AD in Tsim Sha Tsui and Mongkok, but all of them told me that there is no stock.

Would you please let me know where to buy it?

It is really appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Feider Cohen,

Well, I have seen it once at Chow Tai Fook Mongkok Brance Jun 2011.
http://watch-fever.blogspot.com/2011/12/rolex-ad-chow-tai-fook-mong-kok-main.html

and Also Oriental Watch Company

http://watch-fever.blogspot.com/2011/12/oriental-watch-company.html

I am afraid the new one from Rolex AD is hard to get, you can still leave you number and they will search for you but takes time.

or simply go to these shops at Champange Court for new Old stock or preowned one!

http://watch-fever.blogspot.com/2010/01/champange-court.html

Or The Shops at Front of Sino Centre Mongkok, This shop should have price is about HKD$72,000.00 a bit high as they are not Rolex AD.

Or the Watch Me in Sino Centre, they may be some new Old Stock for This Particular model
http://watch-fever.blogspot.com/2011/06/watch-shops-at-sino-centre-mong-kok.html

Note that this watch has been appeared on Auction already!

Wish you best and hope you get one soon, remember tell me you got that then!

Hi,
Great blog. The only one I read regularly.
Im in Hong Kong in a couple of weeks.
What I like is 116710ln GMT or 216570Explorer. If I could get a good deal I may be temped by 116713ln GMT gold/SS instead.
What is availablity, price & discount can I expect.
Also is it better to try Rolex AD's away from tourist area like TST?
your comments apprecaited.
Jock

HK Snob said...

Hi jock,
Many poeple thinks that stay away from TST has a better deal as they think the price of Rolex AD changes in different locaiton.
But Rolex has a very tight control on pricing and there is max. limit of discount, but they may have minor variance of discount some times. Normally all Rolex buyer enjoys a discount of Max 5%, if more than 5%, you should be Alerted as this is abnormal.
if you go to Rolex AD in Mong kok, usually they have sold out all hot model. Go to larger AD in TST has more stock for Hot item usually.
So I think you can try various AD.
Price 116710LN GMT is HKD$62,100.,
216570 Explorer is HKD$61,000.00
116713LN TT is HKD$91,500.00
All items should come with 5% discount.
I saw Wah Hing in Mong Kok has stock of Explorer II, White and Black dial with same price.
Hope you can buy your dream Model.

Hi Blommy,
That is a hot item, yes it is true, the only way is to leave contacts to the AD, more than one and wait. Another way is to ask VIP to help you, usually they buy a lot a year and those hot items are reserved for them.
Or buy from other market paying high a few thousand dollars.

Hi Newbie,

If you are asking me what is at best not bigger than 40mm, between Sub Date, Milgauss GV and Explorer I/II. my suggestion is Milgauss GV as it is beautiful, more colourful!, cheaper than the Sub Date and close to price of Explorer II.

I do not like Explorer I as there is no date!'

FYR

Sub Dats is HKD$62,100.00
Milgauss GV is HKD$59,600
Explorer II Black or White HKD$60,500.00
All is subjected to less 5% discount.

Thanks Watch snob. Milgauss GV is beautiful but has no date too and I think Explorer II may be a bit big looking. So really thinking between Milgauss GV and sub date.

Sub Date is of course big looking,
and Milgauss GV is beautiful and cute.
For Man, go for Sub Date, and for Women go for Milguass GV.
For Rich Man , buy both!
If limited budget, buy for daily use, SUb Date...
If you had more buget buy the Green Bezel Sub Date! How about that!?

Hi Newbie,
If I were asked to choose, or I want to get one Sub, I will take the one with Date, as the cyclops looks awesome on the surface of the transparent sapphire. moreover, having "date" offer your extra convenience.
And Sub with date tend to be better in keeping value.
So I had no questions to choose the one with date.

You HAVE to make sure that is a NEW watch, you know there are a lot of tricks in the market and furbish old Rolex and sell as NEW with super good price, but in fact the watch is OLD.
Check the birth certificate for the Purchase date, and check the supplier reliability is it trustworthy...

The Old Chinese said; Where come the Big toad jumping on the Road!?
and if I do not know the supplier, I rather do not buy... I am afraid the watch is a Cocktailed Watch!!

HKD$55,000 can buy a 10 years BWM 323 Man!! or a Mercedes SLK!

HK Snob said...

Hi Win,

This is a good question, as I can immediate recall of my good friend Fung who was working with Bao Yuk Kong in 1970’ he told me one thing about Rolex,
When he looked at Rolex Oyster case design, that is a sleek, smooth beautiful profile, one mm thicker will be too thick, one mm thinner will be too thin. He is a fan of Rolex and Patek Philippe.

Well, look at it differently, and why there is everywhere man wearing Rolex!? Just because Rolex is the most famous Watch of the Century! Yes, Patek Philippe is a Classic, a legend in making fine watch, a piece of art, I totally agreed. AP is another classic, the Royal Oak is likely the most beautiful watch since 1972, probably the same design will last for 100 years, 2012 is actually 50th anniversary of the first launch of the Royal Oak.

I like all these, IWC, like the Davinci, Top Gun and The Portuguese is one of the beautiful watches too.

So if I had some money say HKD$60,000 , what kind of watch I should buy!? Or I would like to consider buying!?

Well, all depend on what you expect from you watch!?

I can no make a choice for you but all depends on what you want in making a decision for what to buy!?

These are the Consideration
1. Rolex Submariner new HKD$62,100.00 after 5% discount will be HKD$58,995
2. Rolex Milgauss Ref 116100GV Green Glass new HKD$56,800 less 5% will be HKD$53,960.00
3. IWC Portugieser Chronograph http://watch-fever.blogspot.com/2010/07/iwc-portugieser-chronograph-rattrapante.html
Used one is about HKD$35,000-39,500.00
4. Top Gun with ETA movement, pre-owned price is about HKD$30,000
5. AP Stainless stain Date jumbo Automatic new is about HKD$100,100, used one is about HKD$65,000.00
6. Patek Philippe Calatrava White gold HKD$68,000.00 but it is a bit small with
33mm and you may not like it.

http://watch-fever.blogspot.com/2010/10/patek-philippe-calatrava-manual-wound.html

Patek Philippe Calatrava is not an everday watch as it is snap in back that would not be very good water proof, nor even sweat proof, especaily in HK Summer!
Rolex, AP and IWC is good about that! An important factor for your consideration!

Another one likely slightly used, HKD$63,500.
Another one in Tsuen Wan pre-owned watch shop opposite the Rolex AD at Chung On Street, with Box and Certificate HKD$63,000.00
There should have a lot of places you still can buy new, like the watch shop in front of Mong Kong Sino centre ground floor, you can ask Mr Lim price is about HKD$73,500 negotiable down to as I guess HKD$72,500.00
How About Tsim Sha Tsui... at least three locations I saw it...
If you want to get at at Rolex AD, I can not say "NO" as all depends how good relation you are with the managers!
One thing for sure, it is very hard to get with normal price.

Hi watch snob,
I will be in HK from 18th-24th April. Im planning to purchase my first Rolex, a 116610LN. I would very much appreciate an updated price for this model and also suggestions on where to to buy it. Thank you, your help is much appreciated.

HK Snob said...

Hi Rmfcfan,
Ref 116610LN is Rolex best popular sport model, hot item, it may have problem to get it in every Rolex AD.
I suggest you go to Nathan Road Holiday Golen mailes main Entrance Rolex AD at ground floor and Wah Hing at Mong Kong MTR exit to bank centre. They should have this as I saw it last week there. Price is HKD$62,100.00 with less 5% discount using you credit card. Cash is mostly welcome ha!

If you can not get it, let me know...

Hi Host,

Great to find this place.

I plan to get a Rolex at price approx HK$300K, Yacht-Master II (white gold) is always my first choice. Where I can find the best deal for that in HK? Besides, friend in the trade told me that local shops do not sell this item (maybe out of stock), is that true?

Congratulations on a fantastic blog! I found it last night and could not stop reading till 4am. You're doing a great service!
I'm buying a second rolex, my first being a black DJ (116234). Seeing that you have great insight into all matters Rolex, I would like to hear your thoughts on the green ceramic sub (116610LV) and the two tone blue sub (116613LB). My AD has a green sub on hold for me for a few days. I am very keen to hear your opinion. I've read how you admire the green but also notice that you have the TT blue at the top of this page. What will be your choice if you had to pick one and why?
Thanks.

Hi Alex

Well, it is hard to say as watch is very personal as a general guide line for People of HK, US and Europe has less a pattern as they are more going for individualism..

Solid Gold is meant for >45 years old as a tradition young man does not fit too much for gold watch.

Solid gold is meant for age group 30-50,

Young men tends to go for stainless steel watch as it brings sportive image which good for young.

Real pro will go for stainless as no one is diving diamond bezel Submariner unless you want to dazzle eye of sharks!!

Since the trend of the stainless date back year 1995, people tend to go for stainless steel.
And that is also a marketing strategy as they can penetrate into the younger people for more sales revenue,

However, a small group of people will go for White Gold, white gold has a purity and clean sense of beauty and it value is good as Yellow Gold, and moreover, making white gold is harder as the yellow gold in the process.
Of courser, if you can afford, go for a Platinum as the Ultimate material for Watch. I am still looking for an Ice Blue Dial Platinum Date day.

As for my preference as a user’s perspective…

First Choice Ref 116610LV green bezel and green dial as this is rare (Value is High over the year as it is rare)

2nd Choice is the Blue dial Two Tone.

If there is mire choice:
I will no question go for
1. White Gold Submariner with blue dial, it is all time best beauty. (but Chinese HK people hates to use as this is White (nothing) and Blue (hard to earn a living) but I do not have this funny superstititions, if fact this is good as I may get a pre-owned one at lower price in HK!!
2. Submariner Green Bezel green dial
3. Two Tone Blue dial
4. Stainless steel black dial

Have a nice Day Alex….tell me after you have decided!!

HK Snob

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with a total stranger. You have provided me a different perspective. Without going into it at length, I believe I will be getting the green sub.
I would very much like to sit down with you for coffee, beer or wine and hear more of your ideas ... not necessarily on watches. Perhaps when a visit to HK next presents itself. All the best!
Regards,
Alex

Dear Alex,
Well, As I said, Life is a trivial Comedy made up of important tragedies!
And most of all, We only live once... we have to treat everyday the best day we can! I am glad that you choose the Green bezel as I thought you would yesterday...
We can share a lot of life... woman, Pen, Hi Fi, Car, Jobs, Kung Fu, wine other than Watches... as life is meaningful if we cab have some arm stretched goal we could meet and friend that can share!
Let me know when you will come to HK, and I buy you a dinner, I have keep a bottle of Margaux that we can share for 3 hours.
By the way, where are you from!?
Tell me where and how much you get you Ref 116610LV too!

HK Sob,

Thanks, it is very kind of you. I have checked in one of the local watch shop in the weekend, he quoted me the price which was same as yours. I tried it on but it was kind of too big and heavy for me, I therefore switch my attention to Daytona (rose gold, brown), it was fantastic.

Back to the price, I also have a friend who has a realiable source to get me a 'Water Good' at price of 265K. Good deal?

Bare hands

HK Snob said...

Dear Bare Hands,

This is a tough Question! As the difference is 8% further discount if you go for "Water Goods". That amount could bring you another
Submariner Ref. 14060M!

HKD$322,525-HKD$265,000= HKD$57,525!

Well, all it takes is checking with your friend and the watch how sure that is a brand new one.

There are a lot of professional re-packaging business every where.

If that is brand new comes with all the Card, box and asscessories... That is a good deal!

Hi Deepsea Lover,

HK is likely one of the places that you can get cheapest Rolex so far.
Deepsea 116660 is selling at HK$82,500, less 5% at Rolex AD will be HKD$78,735.
Whereas on other side of the World
Dubai, a Duty free city is offering US$12120.00. HK is still cheaper!

Hi Wo,
I would suggest to buy 216570 Explorer II new as they use new movement which has a few area of improvement, It has a better time keeping capability, get the black one for the dramatic contrast and shealth Orange Pointer!
Place Rolex AD shop in TST or Wah Hing at Mong Kong.. They have stock! HKD$60,500 with 5% discount.
Do not suggest to go for Very NEW used one as their price isn't attractive at all and there may be uncertainty on the Quality ytou get unless you know the shops.

Hi HK Snob,

It is a fantistic blog. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in Rolex. I am a newbie in watches timepiece. Yesterday I brought a Rolex Submariner Green Dial Steel Mens Watch 116610LV from Rolex AD at HKD 66100. The salesman said i am very lucky because this is only one in shop and is always out of stock. He is telling the truth. This one i was thinking to gift for friend. But then, i found that this is very nice. If i wear this byself, will this be too much for lady ? What is the current resell value if i used the watch but want to resell for another style ?

HK Snob said...

Hi KC,
Thanks for the compliemnts, I am newbie too for Rolex. Let's learn and find th ejoy by searching, owning and wearing Rolex.
Yes, that was the hot stuff and the price was about hKD$73,000 to HKD$75,000 in Dec 2011, Now there are seem more goods found from Rolex AD, and Some returned units from Japan. The price is just the price you paid. Well, this is new wstch and we do not know how many or how less they produce. If you Like it, use it, and If you are affordable, buy one for your girl friend! It is hard to estimate the re-sell value as it depends on country and the stock level. If you want to sell it later, you have to stop using it. Once you have used it the buyer will be picky about the price.
My suggestion, use it as it brings you a lot of fun!

Hi, HK Snob,

I was in HK last week to visit a relative at Tsuen Wan. And I bought a Rolex at Tai Hing Watch Shop, it was the Explorer II 42mm, list price HK$ 60,500, but the shop gave me 5% discount although I paid by Credit Card. I got back to Kuala Lumpur yesterday, checked the price here in Kuala Lumpur and found that the price in HK is actually better. My friend said I got a good deal Any idea what is the latest price in HK for the Submariner Date (black dial/bezel)?? I will be in Hong KOng again next month.

HK Snob said...

Hi
Tai Hing 's offer HKD$60,500 less 5% with credit card is same as other Rolex AD, I beleive you used your VISA, right.
For the Sub Black or White, it is HKD$62,100 less 5%. You can go to Rolex AD shop like Holiday inn Ground floor, or Wah Hing, Tai Hing, Chow Tai Fook to get one...There should be no difficult to get one!

I was walking through central last week and spotted a black faced new explorer orange hand. I returned to pick up my car 30 mins later and it along with two other watches had all been sold to mainlanders ! They are buying everything here ;(

HK Snob said...

Hi There,
Well, it has been slow down at least >30% for the rich mainlander to shop in HK comparing with last year. Mainly due to unhappy event of D&G, MTRC for the Chinese eating in the train. bossy HK people kills some of the business, many Rolex AD is avilable in Large Cities in China, the European PIGS economic meltdown...etc.
but still we can see a lot of people with enormous buying power that can conclude an order in 5 minutes.. and some time they pay in cash... they are mostly welcome...
I saw a Chinese bought a bottle of Whisky with cash HKD$600,000.00 the sales lady had to count the money for amost 20 minutes, but she was smiling may be she could entitled commissions!
Well, the most excitment of shopping is the seconds that the Credit card is sweept!
You can go to Wah Hing or Rolex AD to buy the Explorer black dial, they are now available!

Hi HK Snob,

I hope that you can help me to find/recommend a rolex model watch. I am getting married soon, and my parents are demanding that my husband to be and I buy them a pair of yellow gold rolex watch with diamonds as a gift to them, or else they will not come to attend my wedding.

They want a yellow gold watch with diamonds, so I'm thinking maybe a daydate reference number 118238 for the two of them. Can you tell me where in HongKong I can get the best price and how much for the pair?

Althernatively, maybe you can also recommend for me if there is any other model which will be more affordable.

You help would be highly appreciated.

Thank you,

Troubled bride-to-be

HK Snob said...

Hi Rich-bride-to-be,

It is hard to say as most of the older generation Chinese like yellow gold, see 80% of Rolex is made with Yellow gold in show room Hong Kong.
Your Parent want to save money for you, as they might not use it everyday, but the value of the watch will not lose much after some years, and this is Yellow Gold which is good for the Chinese for the “Wong Hei” Fat” "Kome Lo” That is all the good saying about Yellow Gold Rolex.
Ref 118238 is HKD$243,200 and the matching lady Datejust Yellow Gold is Ref 179178 at HKD$186,900. both entitled some discount of 5% max in HK Rolex Authorized dealer.
There may not more than 5% if you both at Same time , but they might get you some other gift…Of you can choose more lucky serial number if they have stock.
These are common model and there are stock now in HK. Honesty, the yellow gold Day date is best for them. being a Flag ship model of Rolex.

PS
This is good for your mother you can alos consider...
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust Watch Ref 179178 mrp. 26mm 18K yellow gold case, fluted bezel, mother of pearl dial, Roman numerals, and President bracelet.
PS… They are lucky Parents.
